FEDERAL CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION

The Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) at Terminal Island, California, is a 'low' security facility for male inmates.

Judicial District: Central California

TERMINAL ISLAND FCI CA - Inmate Population: 1,091
The weekly population report is generated every Thurs. - 12:00 a.m.
Last Updated: January 17, 2008

As of the above posted update, the total number of
 Federal Inmates incarcerated in all Federal Prisons across the entire United States totals -
199,831
(obviously population numbers have risen since 2008)

Technically, T.I.'s actual prison facility is rated as 'Medium Security', featuring fully armed guarded observation prison towers {above}
Though security is tighter, and rules & regulations more stringently enforced, than typical 'minimal security' Federal Prison Camps, like the Lompoc, California Federal facility, Terminal Island has established School & Work Release programs, allowing inmates limited access to community resources, upon qualification, and acceptance to these liberal outreach rehabilitation programs. As a result of this, Terminal Island FCI's security rating has been converted to the unique level of 'low' security.

FCI Terminal Island is located at the entrance to the Los Angeles Harbor, between San Pedro and Long Beach, off the Harbor Freeway (110 South), at the Terminal Island exit.

 Access to Terminal Island, itself

from Long Beach, requires traversing the length of the
Vincent Thomas Bridge  (photo-right}.

At the end of the bridge, one enters the LA Harbor area, lined with huge shipping containers.

At the very end of the road stands the entrance to the U.S.  Federal Correctional Institution   (photo - top right}
